| Welcome, today is July 30 2010 |
Between San Vito Lo Capo and Scopello, in the cost called by greeks and latins “Cetaria” because there were lots of tuna in the sea, and over the mountains where birds of prey lived and build their nest, stretches the Natural Reserve of Zingaro, one of the most famous in Italy.
The dwarf palm is the reserve symbol, the fist was born in Sicily;infact with the law n°98, 6th May of 1981 the Regione Siciliana founded the Natural Reserve of Zingaro, to save these fantastic cost (seven km) and about 1.700hectares of immaculated nature.
The reason why this zone is called “Zingaro” is unknown; the historical study doesn’t know if nomads lived there, but they are sure that a lomabrd colony lived there in XIII century.
Describe these cost of seven km is impossibile: the little bays caracterized by candid flint that roll up into the sea painted by all of the green tones (they need to be seen to appreciate); the tall reefs that separate these little coves , sometimes above on the transparent wather, sometimes sweetly sloping, with rabbits that unexpectedly draw out and unexpectedly disappear; the farmhouse built in equilibrium on the rocks that appear over the bank. Who wants to plunge into a without time nature, where past and present blend, have to visit this reserve.
The reserve can be visited only on foot, nothing must disturb all the birds ( about fourty kind, like Aquila del Bonelli, la Poiana, il Nibbio, il Gheppio) and endemic fauna. Lots of plants that grow up here are rare and characteristic; trees that lives here are Carob,Olive, Ash; the most common are Euphorbia and lentrisco.
Zingaro is famous thanks its blue sea, its silent little cave protected by rocks where hawk whirl to search his prey, its limpid anchorages where there’re lot of fishes and submarine caves. But it isn’t only this. In the reserve there are lots of tops of about 1000 metres, and there are the residue of a farmer civilization into the Uzzo cave. In the Reserve there are some oliveti, mandorleti, frassineti and also a little part destinated at the seed-time, around the Borgo Cosenza; a part of these cultivation is still active, another part is private. Anyway, the method used is the tradictional.
The project to arrange the Borgo Cosenza (abandoned in the 50s years) is one of the programmes of the Reserve.. everyone can cross the Reserve: there are 3 routes: the first, the easyest, pass for the cost from a limit to the other of the reserve; the second, more binding, proceed “a zig zag “ in the territory; the third riserved at sportsman, cross the Zingaro from the up to the down. There are paths where someone can rest, old colonical houses restored where “bivaccare”, it’s also possible to sleep in these houses. The unique rule is : don’t soil, don’t pollute, to respect sea, ground and sky. May concerne the sea, The prohibition is approach with the boat’s motor closer than 300 metres.
