A dessert with Arab origins, typical of the Christmas holidays

Mustazzoli are typical desserts from Southern Italy, prepared with flour, sugar, almonds, lemon, cinnamon, honey and other flavourings. The mustazzoli have Arab origins and in fact as per custom.

Recipe Mustazzoli

Ingredients for 6 people

  • 500 g Type 00 flour
  • 150 g Cooked wine
  • 100 g Sugar
  • 100 g Sesame seeds
  • 2 spoons Cinnamon powder
  • 6 g Powdered ammonia
  • 1 spoon Cloves
  • 1 spoon Ground black pepper
  • 1 slice Grated zest of one orange

Process

Mustazzoli

Mix the flour with the sugar , the ammonia , the powdered cloves , the ground cinnamon , the pepper and the grated orange zest , then add the cooked wine to the mixture and knead until you obtain a homogeneous and consistent dough, which it should be left to rest for 60 minutes.
After the indicated time, roll out the mixture and divide it into sticks 2.5 cm thick. Flatten the sticks slightly, cut them into 5 cm diamonds and pass these over the sesame seeds , making sure, with light pressure, that they adhere to their entire surface. Cook the mustazzoli in a preheated oven at 220° for the time necessary for them to take on a brown color (approximately 20 minutes).
