Favignana, butterfly on the sea

Favignana is the largest of the Egadi islands. Well connected from the port of Trapani with hydrofoils and ferries.

Trapani is just 45 minutes from San Vito Lo Capo, you can reach it by car or by bus.

It is very nice and fun to tour the island by bike or scooter (you can rent the vehicles on the island). The beaches and coves, inlets and cliffs where you can swim are numerous and fantastic.

Those who love adventure can also go around by boat , with one of the many fishermen of the island, and discover the wonderful sea caves and the coast. They will almost always let you taste local products and tell you anecdotes about their life as fishermen.

In the evening, the town with its two beautiful squares and the main street comes alive with people. Thanks to the presence of many restaurants and bars, you can spend the evening tasting the island's delicacies. Don't miss the opportunity to taste the traditional island dishes, almost always fish-based, or the tasty cannoli and fresh granitas.

Among the beaches, the most famous is undoubtedly Cala Rossa , characterised by crystalline waters and a sandy seabed with a splendid rock face as a backdrop.

Its name was once thought to be linked to the battle of the Egadi in 241 BC, between the Romans and Carthaginians, but it is now clear that the battle took place in the vicinity of Levanzo and so its name remains a mystery.

Don't forget to visit the largest museum in Europe , the Ex Stabilimento Florio , one of the last Sicilian tuna fisheries, now transformed into a place of remembrance. Bronze rostra, amphorae and ancient finds tell the important role that these islands had in the past. And then the testimonies and stories of the last tuna fishermen will show you how alive the island was in the 19th century.

Between sunset aperitifs, lobster dinners and romantic walks, don't miss a visit to the ancient tuff quarries and the fascinating underground gardens, now transformed into luxury residences and hotels.
