You enter almost on tiptoe into the Zingaro Nature Reserve , fascinated immediately by its wild air, by its original appearance. It immediately reveals all its beauty.
Just twenty minutes by car separate it from San Vito Lo Capo .
The emerald green of the sea, the dazzling white of its pebble beaches, the tufts of dwarf palms, the patches of rosemary, the carob trees and the ancient olive trees, the paths lined with green acanthus, the peaks, the caves that suddenly open up on the high rocky walls... here Bonelli's eagles soar undisturbed and falcons nest.
Visiting this place you'll discover the ancient face of the Sicilian nature, it will be an amazing experience.
Lo Zingaro, the first Reserve in Sicily, was established in 1981 by the Sicilian Region.
Although the Zingaro is particularly famous for its beaches, clear and rich seafood and underwater caves, it is good to know that the reserve offers a lot more.
Nothing is known about why this area is called "zingaro", in fact, there is no news of nomads who lived in these areas from historical sources, and shows the presence of a Lombard colony in the thirteenth century.
Seven amazing coves for seven kilometers of pure nature
These seven coves of the Zingaro Reserve are among the most beautiful in Sicily and can only be reached on foot or by boat in the case of Cala del Varo.
Visiting them will be a unique experience, whether you choose to walk through the reserve or decide to see them from the sea by taking part in a guided excursion: BOOK A BOAT TRIP.
Cala Tonnarella dell'Uzzo
It is without doubt the most fascinating cove of the Zingaro Reserve. To reach it, it is recommended to start from the northern entrance of the reserve, on the side of San Vito Lo Capo. A short path of 700 meters will lead you to this renowned and spacious bay. The path that connects the entrance to Cala Tonnarella dell'Uzzo descends rapidly. Along the way, you pass by the Museum of Maritime Activities and reach the sea via a staircase carved into the rock. Due to the considerable slope of the path, it is advisable to wear closed shoes, especially useful when going uphill. Put sandals or rock shoes in your backpack to walk comfortably on the small pebbles of the beach. Toilets are available next to the museum. Before leaving, take a moment to visit the Museum of maritime activities and discover the ancient method of tuna fishing in the traditional Sicilian tuna fisheries.
Uzzo Cove
This cove takes its name from the prehistoric cave of Uzzo that is located right nearby. Easy to reach, following the signs on the coastal path.
Marinella Cove
It is easier to reach by entering from the North entrance, San Vito Lo Capo side. The cove is located in the middle of the Zingaro Reserve, it is very small, but very fascinating for its wild air.
Berretta Cove
Located in the central part of the Zingaro Reserve, Cala Berretta can be reached indifferently from the two entrances to the Reserve: North or South.
A delightful little beach of white pebbles, sheltered from the winds, that is worth all the steps you take to get there.
Cove of Disa
Cala della Disa is located in the Zingaro area, from which the Reserve takes its name.
This cove is about 3.5 km from the two entrances and is made up of two small inlets divided by very high rock walls, a corner of the sea that offers great emotions.
Cove of the Varo
Located 2 km from the South entrance, this location is accessible only by sea. To enjoy a dip in its crystal clear waters, we suggest joining one of the boat excursions offered by the various operators active in San Vito Lo Capo and Castellammare del Golfo.
Capreria Cove
Cala Capreria is the first beach you come across when walking from the South, between Scopello and Castellammare del Golfo, after a journey of about 1.4 km along the main path of the Riserva dello Zingaro. Its proximity to the entrance makes it ideal for even the littlest ones. Its crystalline marine colors and the imposing rock formations that plunge into the sea leave a lasting impression. Nearby, the Natural History Museum is an unmissable stop for an in-depth visit.
