Visiting the Zingaro Nature Reserve, close to San Vito Lo Capo, you'll discover the authentic face of the sicilian nature, it will be an amazing experience.
The "palma nana"and rosemary spots, the caves that appear suddenly on the cliffs and the Caribbean coves make this place a paradise
Lo Zingaro, the first Reserve in Sicily, was established in 1981 by the Sicilian Region.
Entering the North Side of the Reserve (from San Vito Lo Capo) you will encounter 8 beautiful coves:
Cala Tonnarella Dell'Uzzo
Cale dell'Uzzo
Cala Marinella
Cala Beretta
Cala della Disa
Cave del Varo
Cala Capreira
Although the Zingaro is particularly famous for its beaches, clear and rich seafood and underwater caves, it is good to know that the reserve offers a lot more.
Nothing is known about why this area is called "zingaro", in fact, there is no news of nomads who lived in these areas from historical sources, and shows the presence of a Lombard colony in the thirteenth century.
Although Lo Zingaro is particularly famous for its beaches, for clear and waters rich in fish and underwater caves, it is good to know that the reserve offers much more.
