A pleasant trek in uncontaminated places

A walk immersed in the colors of Sicily, just steps from a pristine sea and surrounded by fragrant Mediterranean scrub.

We start from the beach of Baia Santa Margherita , at the foot of the village of Macari , and follow the coastal path to the entrance of the Monte Cofano nature reserve. Once past the reserve you will arrive in Custonaci .

Fun fact: part of this trail coincides with the third stage of the Italian Alpine Club's Sentiero Italia in Sicily.

Immersed in an extraordinary landscape that smells of salt and mixes with the colors of the Sicilian countryside, you will cross the vast plain of the Bay until the crossroads for the ancient path of Scaletta Maruzza .

The trail climbs through a scenic gorge and leads to the Cofano saddle, once the shortest route used by shepherds and travellers who wanted to reach San Vito Lo Capo.

Breathtaking views and panoramas, which look like natural paintings, will be perfect inspiration for your photos and videos.

Once you reach the saddle, you'll pass a large seasonal pool of rainwater that, during high water, hosts small crustaceans, Gorgo Cofano. Continue along the path and you'll find the famous Custonaci marble quarries on your left, then descend towards Cala Buguto and stop in front of the prehistoric Mangiapane Cave , home to the Custonaci Living Nativity Scene during the Christmas season.

Treat yourself to a visit to the cave that protects, like a treasure, a cluster of ancient peasant houses, a magical place that will take you back in time.

The final stop will be Custonaci, where you can admire the Sanctuary of Maria Santissima di Custonaci. Inside, you'll find the precious painting it houses and the unique churchyard surrounding it, paved with small river pebbles that form unique and elegant floral and geometric designs.
